The St. Joseph Church in Jasper will hold a service of healing for abuse victims Sunday afternoon.

The service is in response to the Catholic Diocese of Evansville's revelations in August that more than 10 victims have come forward alleging abuse at the hands of a deceased Dubois County priest.

The allegations concern Monsignor Othmar Schroeder, who founded Holy Family Church in Jasper in 1947. In 1975, Schroeder moved to Sacred Heart Church in Schnellville, Ind. He died in 1988.

Bishop Gerald Gettelfinger has said he first became aware of abuse allegations in 1996, but he decided to go public with the news in August after learning about additional victims.

The upcoming healing service is intended for victims of abuse of all types, including bullying, sexual, physical and/or emotional abuse.
