Anchorage (eCanadaNow) - A settlement has been reached between a Roman Catholic religious order and Alaskan Natives who stated that they were abused sexually by Jesuit priests. The religious order has to pay $50 million to over 100 people.

Over 100 Alaska Natives are going to be getting paid in the settlement as they all claimed that they were victims of sexual abuse by the Jesuit priests.

The settlement was reached with the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus.

Anchorage lawyer Ken Roosa stated it was "a great day" for the 110 victims receiving payment.

He stated "There are peopel who were altar boys and altar servers and altar girls. These are people who tried to tell their story and in many instances were beaten or told to shut up and told, how can you say such things about a man of God?"

The settlement announcement according to Rev. John Whitney was "premature and detrimental."

The settlement calls for $50 million to be payed in exchange for the releases of all claims against the defendants.
