JACKSONVILLE, FL — Investigators who handled and built a case against former Trinity Baptist pastor Bob Gray were questioned by defense attorneys about the process and evidence.

Pastor Gray died last month before his trial for allegedly molesting children decades ago.

Police say the case started on May 13, 2006 when they responded to a call from the Justice Coalition to meet with an alleged victim. The victim said she had been French kissed decades earlier.

Six days later, Gray was arrested.

Defense attorneys in depositions asked police about all the publicity the case received especially the work of First Coast News Anchor Jeannie Blaylock who interviewed victims before police did.

Lt. Andrea Smith who worked in sex crimes said victims talking to the media before talking to police did concern her. Smith says she did not want alleged victims swayed by media and "did not want information to be skewed."

Smith also pointed out that police don't compel victims to talk to them and that's a decision that victims make.

Gray, who was questioned by police, admitted to kissing young girls, but not to abusing them.

Alleged victims have told First Coast News they were molested by Gray.

Trinity Baptist Church presently is named in civil lawsuits filed by alleged victims.
