A general court-martial of a Catholic priest serving as a Navy chaplain on charges of sodomy, aggravated assault, conduct unbecoming of a military officer as well as indecent assault and fraternization is scheduled to begin Thursday morning at the Quantico Marine Corps base.

Lt. Cmdr. John Thomas Matthew Lee was a base chaplain at Quantico until he was relieved of his duties in June, according to the Quantico Public Affairs Office.

The base is not releasing any further information about Lee or the circumstances that led to the charges.

Under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, a general court-martial is the most serious level of military courts and is comparable to a circuit court proceeding.
