The closing arguments in the sexual abuse case against former priest Gregory Laurence Ferguson have been heard in the Launceston Supreme Court this morning.

The jury is expected to retire shortly to consider its verdict.

Justice Ewan Crawford told the jury they must be sure that 3 of the alleged 7 unlawful sexual acts occurred, and that the jury must agree on the same 3 acts to find the accused guilty of maintaining a sexual relationship with a young person under the age of 17.

Ferguson was a teacher at Burnie's Marist College when the abuse allegedly happened in 1970.
