	Scandals Don't Hurt Church Gifts By Susan Hogan Chicago Sun-Times December 21, 2007 http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/religion/707881,CST-NWS-arch21.article Church donations rose 2.5 percent to nearly $203 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, according to an Archdiocese of Chicago financial report released Thursday. During that time, the archdiocese said it settled $8.6 million in past clergy sexual misconduct cases. Another $3.7 million in settlements were reached since June. The archdiocese borrowed money to fund all settlements, which are "repaid from the sale of undeveloped land and recoveries from insurance companies," the report said. Overall, the archdiocese has spent $64.7 million for misconduct settlements and related expenses since 2001, the report said. "No current contributions received by parishes, schools or the Pastoral Center are used to fund misconduct settlements," the report said.
