A prominent church music director accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old family member fondled the girl twice in the past month and gave her white pills to "help her sleep," according to court documents.

James Howard Brown, 38, was to be in Arapahoe County District Court on Friday morning, but that was delayed because of a medical hold.

Brown will be advised of the charges against him Monday. He is being held on $50,000 bail on two counts of sexual assault on a child and one charge of aggravated incest. All three are felonies.

James Howard Brown was relieved of his duties at Heritage.

Brown was the music minister at Heritage Christian Center in Denver until church leaders relieved him of his duties Thursday night. He was arrested Thursday after the girl told police that on the night after Christmas, Brown allegedly touched her inappropriately beneath her underwear.

The arrest warrant affidavit also said the girl told police that Brown had fondled her over her clothes two weeks earlier.

During those two to three weeks, court documents said, Brown gave her a white pill every night. He told her it would help her sleep "so she stays healthy," the affidavit said.

Brown allegedly admitted to investigators that he fondled the girl, according to the affidavit.

Officials with Heritage Christian Center declined to comment Friday.

Brown's criminal record includes several misdemeanor charges. In October, he was cited for fighting in a public place, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation's website.
