(Rochester, N.Y.) The Rev. John Steger, 80, a Roman Catholic priest who had been charged with sexually abusing a 12-year-old in Gates, died at Strong Memorial Hospital Monday.

Steger began his pastoral appointments at St. Joseph's Church in Wayland, in June 1951. He began his last assignment--at St. Jude's--in June 1968. He was placed on leave Mary 17, 2006.

When he died, John Steger was facing misdemeanor charges for two incidents that allegedly took place in the rectory of St. Jude the Apostle Church where he lived.
