CINCINNATI -- An independent audit turned up no budgetary improprieties at Saints Peter and Paul Church, according to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

A 2007 newspaper report revealed that complaints about church spending practices had been filed with Reading police and the archdiocese, and an investigation was launched.

Certified public accountants from Collins Heeb Miller & Company, Inc. audited the parish's financial records covering a period of June 30, 2006, through June 30, 2007, and found no

evidence of theft or other misused funds.

According to a letter filed by the accounting firm, "all funds were used to pay expenses for the church, school, office building and other church property including the building used for bingo and basketball."

Police said the complaints, some of which were anonymous, did not list specific acts of wrongdoing.

"This audit report exonerates Saints Peter and Paul Church, its pastor and its business manager from financial wrongdoing," said Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk.
