THE West Ankole Diocese has ordered a priest to refund sh10m. In a February 29 letter signed by the diocesan secretary, the Rev. Can. James Rutaraka, the Rev Edward Tumwesigye was given 14 days to repay the money.

"If you fail to comply, legal action will be taken against you," Rutaraka's letter read.

Tumwesigye, who was the Kyangyenyi parish priest, and the treasurer, Mburura Baguma, allegedly withdrew the money from the church's account in Stanbic Bank illegally.

The money was for the Kyangyenyi Orphans Support Initiative.

The Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Yonah Katuneene, said: "Any fraud in the church shall be investigated because we cannot challenge the Government on corruption while some of our people are corrupt."

Tumwesigye and Baguma could not be reached for a comment. Sources said Tumwesigye was sick.
