A Hoover man arrested Thursday on charges of child abuse and a third-degree sex offense in a Maryland case had resigned from his job as music minister at Shades Crest Baptist Church in Hoover on Saturday, the church's pastor said today.

Timothy Mann

Timothy Mann, 46, was arrested at his home and is expected to be extradited to Maryland, Hoover police Capt. Jim Coker said.

Shades Crest Baptist Church Pastor Dennis Foust said Mann informed him of the pending charges in Maryland on Saturday. Mann had been music minister at the church since December 2001.

Foust said the church is not aware of any sexual misconduct by Mann at the church. He said Mann passed a criminal background check before his hiring in accordance with a church policy that has been in place since 1994.

Mann also resigned from his job as an adjunct music instructor at Samford University, according to the school.
