TAUNTON - The Diocese of Fall River announced Monday the Rev. Bento Fraga has been removed from the ministry following an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor in 1979. Fraga, a Taunton native, was the pastor at St. Paul's on Tremont Street from 1992 until his retirement in 2005 and has since been residing at St. Anthony's Parish on School Street.

1956 to 1969 Assistant priest at St. John of God in Somerset

1969 to 1972 Assistant priest at St. Joseph's on Kilmer Avenue in Taunton

1972 to 1974 Assistant priest at Holy Ghost of Attleboro

1974 to 1985 Pastor at Holy Ghost in Attleboro

1985 to 1987 Pastor at St. John the Baptist in New Bedford

1987 to 1992 Pastor at St. Peter the Apostle in Provincetown

1992 to 2005 Pastor at St. Paul's on Tremont Street in Taunton

2005 Retired

2005 to 2008 Resided at St. Anthony's Parish on School Street in Taunton, where he frequently assisted.

January 2008 Accusation of sexual misconduct involving a minor in 1979 on Cape Cod

March 2008 Removed from the ministry and no longer allowed to live in the parish or at the priests' retirement facility following a determination by the Diocesan Review Board the allegation is "credible." The case is under investigation by the Barnstable County District Attorney's Office.
