WHEATON A former youth pastor at a Downers Grove church is the third to be convicted of a sex-related crime, while a fourth awaits trail.

Edward D. Greene, 37, now of Asheboro, N.C., was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday in DuPage County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to criminal sexual assault while in a position of trust, a Class 1 felony.

The one-time youth pastor at Marquette Manor Baptist Church, 333 75th St., Downers Grove, sexually abused a 17-year-old female church member between April 11 and June 7, 1998.

The same female was victimized by another Marquette official, according to prosecutors.

Ex-deacon and former Naperville resident Frank W. Stima, 64, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse of the same female church member in 1998 and 1999. In 2005, he was sentenced to 60 days in jail and two years felony probation, which is set to expire in May.

According to the Illinois sex offender registry online database, Stima currently lives in Everett, Wash.

Also out of state, Howard L. Blattel, 67, formerly of Bolingbrook, has been convicted of first-degree sexual abuse of an 88-year-old woman in Alabama, according to the state's department of public safety. Blattel served as a deacon at the Downers Grove church in the late 90s and earlier this decade.

And a fourth former church official is awaiting his day in court.

Aurora resident John Puga, 36, will likely go to trial later this year on charges of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse for allegedly molesting an underage female church member between November 2001 and May 2002.

During his time at Marquette, Puga also was the coach of the boys basketball team at the church academy.
