Many people in the valley feel the Diocese of Steubenville is moving forward with their plans to consolidate parishes is a step in the right direction.

Plans to have two parishes remain open and three churches close is something that has been in the works for some time. Right now, Saint Anthony, Saint Stainislaus, And Saint Pius are set to close. Holy Name and Holy Rosary Churches will stay open for parishioners. Holy Name will still serve as the church for servants of Chris the King Parish.

Seeing it move forward showcases a vision becoming a reality in the near future.

Because of the changes, many parishioners will have to move from one church to another. That could be hard for some people who attend the churches. The diocese said their faith will make the transition easier.

"Everyone in the six parishes will feel the pain of the familiar dying away, but we are people of faith. We believe in resurrection, life after death," said the Diocese.

Some parishioners said they will follow the plans and help other members who may be forced to go to other churches.

"I think we really need to trust that the Bishop knows what he's doing," said parishioner Maura McKeegan.

'"If more people come that would be great. We'd love to meet new families and meet new parishioners that do come to our church if that's what happens," said McKeegan.

The Diocese said the new pastor of the Triumph Of The Cross will focus on building a sense of community within the new parish.
