The co-author of a new book that looks at the Garda investigation that brought two Donegal serial abusers to justice, has said he feels it is vital that the harrowing story of the victims is told.

Gerard Cunnigham was speaking ahead of the launch of the book 'Breaking The Silence' in Letterkenny tonight, which he wrote alongside former Garda Martin Ridge

The book examines a series of events in West Donegal that led to a Garda investigation which revealed local priest Fr Eugene Greene as a serial child sex abuser for decades.

As word of the investigation spread, 26 men came forward.

The majority of whom were from Gortahork.

Further investigations uncovered that local schoolteacher Denis McGinley had been systematically abusing children in his classroom for decades.

Martin Ridge later discovered that the Church knew about the abuse, but ignored the problem.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Gerard Cunnigham said compiling the book was a difficult experience at times, however he hopes it reinforce the importance for abuse victims to speak out.
