MADISON, Wis. - The Diocese of Madison says it's waiting at least a year before launching a capital campaign to rebuild St. Raphael Catholic Cathedral.

Bishop Robert Morlino says the hard economic times and the need to persuade more people to support the project are the primary reasons for the delay in rebuilding the church destroyed by an arson fire three years ago.

Morlino says a feasibility study commissioned by the diocese indicated people are supportive of the new cathedral, but the state of the economy suggests waiting for a major fundraiser.

The old St. Raphael Cathedral was destroyed on March 14th, 2005 by a mentally ill homeless man who received a 15-year prison sentence last summer.

William Connell is a paranoid schizophrenic who said he was delusional and off his medication when he set fire to St. Raphael's Cathedral.
