Sante Sguotti non e piu sacerdote. Era la scorsa estate, la vicenda si stava affacciando ancora timidamente ai media nazionali quando don Sante dichiaro in conferenza stampa che la sua vita, e cosi la notizia del suo innamoramento e del suo essere padre, in fondo "era un gioco". Ora pero la partita e conclusa. Non solo perche nel frattempo il parroco e stato allontanato dalla parrocchia, non solo perche e stato sospeso "a divinis", non solo perche ha confessato di essere padre e ha organizzato convegni per mettere in discussione alcuni dei pilastri del Vaticano e nemmeno perche proprio in questi giorni la Guardia di Finanza ha avviato su di lui un'indagine che parla di truffa e appropriazione indebita. E finita perche a prendere la parola e stato Papa Ratzinger. E lui ad aver firmato le dimissioni dallo stato clericale di don Sante Sguotti, d'ora in avanti semplicemente Sante Sguotti. Le "dimissioni ex officio" sono arrivate ieri nel tardo pomeriggio, dopo l'avvallo dato dalla Congregazione per il clero, istituzione alla quale lo stesso prete ribelle si era appellato per chiedere la sua riammissione nella parrocchia di Monterosso (frazione di Abano). Come si legge nel comunicato della diocesi di Padova, la dimissione dallo stato clericale significa in sostanza che "Sante Sguotti non e piu annoverato nella chiesa tra i ministri o chierici e quindi non ha piu i diritti e i doveri dei chierici: non puo celebrare l'Eucaristia e gli altri sacramenti, ne assumere incarichi propri dei chierici, ne puo attribuirsi titoli sacerdotali o portare abiti ecclesiastici". Il che tradotto in parole piu comprensibili significa che da oggi Sante Sguotti e un laico come tanti. Ma d'altra parte la sua "riduzione allo stato laicale" era attesa gia da tempo. Anzi, in molti avrebbero scommesso che il vaticano si sarebbe deciso prima di oggi per "risolvere" il problema del prete papa. Tutto ha avuto inizio lo scorso 19 agosto quando il vescovo ha chiesto all'allora parroco di Monterosso don Sante di andarsene poiche erano iniziate a circolare sempre piu insistentemente alcune voci sul suo conto. Poi e iniziato il braccio di ferro. Sempre piu serrato e sempre meno rispettoso dei ruoli imposti dal diritto canonico. A ottobre il decreto di rimozione dall'ufficio di parroco e l'avvio del processo per violazione del sesto comandamento. Ma la situazione era ancora ben lontana dal risolversi. Anzi, don Sante ha preso a frequentare salotti i televisivi e a rilasciare interviste a radio, tv e giornali scandalistici. Fino a quando in dicembre ha annunciato per la prima volta a "Buona domenica" di essere padre. Ma evidentemente ancora non era abbastanza e si e fatto pregare per lunghe settimane prima di convincersi che era il caso di andarsene dalla canonica di Monterosso. Poi e venuto, nello scorso gennaio, l'incontro con l'esorcista scomunicato Emmanuel Milingo e la creazione di un fronte comune di lotta. Insomma, mai come in questa occasione la Curia e il Vaticano sembrano aver dimostrato pazienza. Pochi giorni fa la goccia che ha fatto traboccare il vaso (ma che stando a quanto riferito dalla Curia non ha influenzato la decisione di Papa Benedetto XVI): un'inchiesta giudiziaria aperta a carico di don Sante che ipotizza che l'ex parroco si sia intascato circa 50 mila euro, arrivati a Monterosso come finanziamenti pubblici per la sistemazione delle gradinate del campo da calcio e dell'altare della chiesa. Appena appresa la notizia delle sue dimissioni dallo stato clericale Sante Sguotti ha spento il suo telefono. Forse la cosa migliore da fare per evitare nuove inutili provocazioni. It's over because the one who just spoke was Pope Ratzinger. It was he who signed the Rev. Sante Sguotti's resignation from the clerical state, who is from now on simply Sante Sguotti. The "resignation ex officio" arrived yesterday in the late afternoon, after the assent given by the Congregation for the clergy, an institution the same rebel priest appealed to ask his readmission to the parish of Monterosso ( situated in the Abano territory). As it can be read in the Diocese of Padua' s announcement, the resignation from the clerical state means substantially that "the Rev. Sante Sguotti is not any more listed in the number of the church's ministers or clergy and as such he hasn't any rights or duties of the clergy: therefore he can't celebrate the Eucharist and the other sacraments, nor have clerical appointments, titles or wear ecclesiastical garments". Such a thing, translated into more comprehensible words means that from today on the Rev. Sante Sguotti is a layman as many others. But on the other hand his being " reduced to the lay state " had been waiting for a long time. On the contrary, many people would have bet the Vatican would have decided much earlier "to solve" the problem of the priest-father. All started last August 19 when the bishop asked the then parish priest of Monterosso, the Rev. Sante, to leave the parish because "voices" about him had started to circulate more insistently. Then the arm twisting started, in the course of time becoming harsher and less respectful of the roles imposed by the canon law. In October there was the decree of the priest's removal from his parish and the starting of the process for violation of the sixth commandment. But the situation was very far from being solved. On the contrary, the Rev. Sante started to frequent TV stations's sitting rooms and give press releases to radios, TV stations and tabloids. That until he announced in December, for the first time, at the "Buona Domenica" TV show , to be the father of a child. That evidently wasn't enough for him. He was for many long weeks implored before he convinced himself it was the case to leave the rectory of Monterosso. Then last January there was his meeting with the excommunicated exorcist Emmanuel Milingo and the creation of a common front for fight. To sum it up, never as in this story the Curia and the Vatican ever showed such a patience. A few days ago the straw which broke the camel's back ( but that according to the Curia wasn't the episode which influenced Pope Benedict XVI's decision): the Rev. Sante being investigated for having allegedly pocketed about 50 thousand euros, which were to be used to repair the stair steps of the Monterosso's soccer field and church altar. As soon as he knew "he had been resigned" from the clerical state, Sante Sguotti switched off his phone. Perhaps it was the best thing to do to avoid new useless provocations.
