The former pastor of a controversial London church was found guilty of 12 of 13 criminal charges this morning.

Royden Wood, 57, the senior pastor of the now-defenct Ambassador Baptist Church, will be sentenced June 13.

Wood was found guilty of nine of 10 assault and assault-with-a-weapon charges in connection with the abuse of three boys, who attended the church's alternative school from 1985 to 1987.

The other three charges, two of sexual assault and one of sexual interference, involved two females who had their breasts touched.

The boys were assaulted during what Wood called a "self-control progam."

It included pulling hairs out of their faces with pliars, punching them and hitting them.

Superior Court Justice Lynda Templeton said she did not believe Wood's testimony that the assaults on the boys were merely horseplay and that he did not touch the women.

She called his conduct at the school "behaviour modification through violence."
