Former Geneva priest and convicted sex offender Mark Campobello could face a prisoner review board next week in his technical parole violation, officials said Wednesday.

Campobello was taken back into custody Monday for violating his parole, said Derek Schnapp, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Campobello was living in Crystal Lake after his release from prison in February.

Ken Tupe, lawyer for the board, said Campobello arrived Monday at Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill and could have a preliminary hearing Monday. A full hearing likely would be May 14, unless Campobello is moved to a different facility.

Schnapp said he could not specify the allegations against Campobello, but said it was "technical," and not a new arrest.

"It's a violation of what we thought were in his guidelines and restrictions," he said.

Such restraints on prisoners are confidential and developed by the Prisoner Review Board, Schnapp said.

Usually they include meetings with a parole officer, curfews and other rules, he said.

Campobello was released from prison in February after serving three years and eight months of his eight-year sentence.

He pleaded guilty in 2004 to abusing two teenage girls he taught at Aurora Central Catholic High School while he was a priest at St. Peter Catholic Church in Geneva.

The Rockford Diocese paid a $2.2 million settlement to the girls, now in their 20s, last year.

Their families sued the diocese, Campobello and Bishop Thomas Doran, claiming that there were no background checks when Campobello was hired.
