  Abuser Steps down from Church Position

CONVICTED sex offender Ivor Hogg has stepped down as a congregational committee member of his Presbyterian church in north Antrim.

Hogg, 31, from Greenville Avenue in Ballymoney, received a suspended sentence last month after admitting to three indecent assaults.

His 24-year-old victim his cousin Simone Walker waived her right to anonymity to highlight the issue of sexual abuse within religious circles.

Ms Walker was abused when she was aged between five and 11 by Hogg, a Sunday school teacher and Boys' Brigade leader at Drumreagh Presbyterian Church near Ballymoney.

She said Hogg received support from some members of the church community and a number of others hurled verbal abuse at her during court proceedings.

It's understood meetings have since taken place to address the fall-out from the case.

The church's minister, Rev Hugh Mullen has refused to comment on the
