Frank Slowikowski, like many area Catholics, is disappointed with the parish closures that are due to happen in just weeks. But what he is even more disappointed with is Bishop Daniel Conlon's response to a recent e-mail he sent.

"I got an e-mail back that was just a form letter. The same thing a friend got at Blessed Sacrament. Just changed the name of the priest," said Slowikowski.

In Slowikowski's e-mail, he expressed his concerns with the bishop's plans to close several churches and build one large cathedral, in an effort to unify the parishioners. But the bishop's impersonal response makes Slowikowski wonder whether the head of the Diocese is taking others' opinions into consideration.

"I don't know if he's even reading or if he even cares about how we feel," he said.

While he said the Toronto churches he attends aren't scheduled to close, other parishioners were clearly reminded of the upcoming closures in their church bulletins. In the recap of upcoming events section, closing masses are listed, then on June 14, the new mass schedule for Triumph of The Cross begins.

Before the closing masses start, Slowikowski hopes the bishop will consider how the community feels.

"When the church bells ring you know that one of your priests are going to be there saying mass. It's a good feeling," he said. But now it's like, it doesn't matter to the bishop. Just whatever he wants to do."

Slowikowski also started a petition to keep the diocese from reassigning Toronto Msgr. Kurt Kemo. Slowikowski said he's waiting on Sheriff Fred Abdalla to draft a letter to the bishop and send off those petitions to see if that will generate a response from the Diocese.
