KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two more lawsuits have been filed accusing the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph of covering up sexual abuse by two priests nearly three decades ago.

The lawsuits, filed Friday, accuse two priests who worked at St. Elizabeth Parish in Kansas City during the 1970s.

One lawsuit was filed by the mother of man who allegedly was abused by Monsignor Thomas O'Brien, who has been named in

at least a dozen similar cases.

The second case accuses Earl Johnson, a member of the Capuchin order, of sexually abusing another man 30 years ago.

The suits are the latest of about 20 Kansas City-area cases filed by 43 plaintiffs in recent years.

The diocese declined to comment on the lawsuits because it had not seen them.
