A CHURCH pastor accused of having a sexual affair with his daughter in the Northern Division was granted bailed yesterday by the Labasa Magistrates Court.

The Assemblies of God Church pastor appeared before Magistrate Anare Tuilevuka but no plea was taken.

His Legal Aid rep Malcolm Maitava asked for bail and assured the court his client would not interfere with the witnesses.

In granting bail, Mr Tuilevuka told the pastor to report to the Dreketi Police Station.

Divisional Police Prosecutor Joji Cakau objected to bail, saying the pastor could interfere with witnesses. But after the investigating officer informed the court the victim lived in Nadi, Mr Tuilevuka allowed bail.

The court heard that on the first count of incest, the pastor allegedly had sex with his daughter between November 1, 2006, and November 30, 2007.

On the second count of incest, the pastor allegedly had sex with her between January 1 and January 31 last year.

The pastor has been suspended from church duties.

It's alleged he threatened his daughter not to tell anyone about the incidents.

The matter came to light after the victim shared her experience at a church camp in Nadi two months ago.

It's understood the victim told a reconciliation session at the camp and the matter was subsequently reported to Nadi police, who referred it to northern police.
