The issue of sexual abuse within the Church is likely to arise during the Pope's visit to Australia, with victims' groups calling for the Pope to make an apology, as he did during his recent trip to the US.

Pope Benedict is en route to Australia as is expected to land in Sydney at around 3pm on Sunday.

SBS correspondent Auskar Surbakti is onboard the papal flight from the Vatican.

Reporting from the flight he says the Pope was asked about the issue of sexual abuse during a press conference on board the aircraft.
