A Hunter Valley man who was sexually abused by a Catholic priest has labelled the Pope's apology for sexual abuse as a "job half done".

Peter Gogarty from Vacy has spent months calling for a papal apology.

At the weekend mass, the Pope said he was "deeply sorry" for sexual abuse committed by priests and other Catholic figures.

Mr Gogarty says it is a positive step but more work is needed.

"There is a lot more work to be done. I think one of the things I've been calling for over the past few months is that not only should there be an apology, but the church must find a way to make sure that this never happens to anymore innocent children," he said.
