In recent Hawaii legal news, a fifty-six year old minister has been indicted by the O?ahu Grand Jury and he is identified as Manuel Guillermo Taboada and also known as Memo.

He is charged with seven counts of first and second degree sexual assault charges for allegedly molesting one of his parishioners children.

This comes after the Monday arrest of Taboada that took place at the Honolulu International Airport. There are questions to as to whether or not he was attempting to evade justice in this case. He is now being held in lieu of a hefty $2 million dollars in bail. It is speculation but the high bail amount appears to possibly be due to the possibility of the defendent fleeing the state or perhaps even the country. Of course, the defendent is innocent untill proven guilty of the crime at hand.

According to the various local and national media reports the girl involved has stated that she and her family resided with Taboada in a home in Kane?ohe that is included in the court records. At this point there have been no reports of actual personal injury to the gitl, at least not ona physical level, but not all the facts are yet known in this sensitive case. it should be noted that in general, hawaii has not been hit as hard as some states with regard to abuse scandals involving church members.

The molestation allegedly took place during an eight year period that began when the girl was only 12 years old.

It is reported that Hawaiian authorities are also working with the police in Portland Oregon with related allegations. There is no report on the extent of the allegations or the number of alleged victims that have come forth.

Members Taboada?s ministry are shocked and Alex McAngus who is the Chaplin for the Waikiki Chapaincy Ministry where Taboada is also a member stated it was a thunderbolt to him.

It has also been found that Taboada made regular trips to Oregon and Arizona and that in the wake of these allegations some members of the congregation have left Hawaii. His home in Kane?ohe is also up for sale. By the way if you require a Hawaii personal injury attorney you may want to consider Dan Pagliarini. He is a leading personal injury attorney in the state.

During a court preceding according to Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Vickie Kapp the victim was warned by Taboada that if she reported the molestation to anyone the ministry would fall apart when the molestation began in 1999.

The victim who is now 21 has described the assaults in an interview with the Children?s Justice Center and stated that the molestation ended in 2007 when she was 20 years of age.
