HICAGO (WLS) — The mother of a victim of sexual abuse by a priest is supporting calls for Francis Cardinal George to resign.

Leaders of the reform group Voice of the Faithful asked for the resignation earlier this week.

Diane Houston, mother of Maday abuse victim

Diane Houston's son John was molested by Father Nobert Maday as a child. Six years ago, he committed suicide. Maday is serving a 20-year sentence.

Several years ago, Cardinal George supported a reduced sentence but later changed his mind when more information about Maday surfaced.

"Father Maday's living in a facility to get better, to get better! He belongs in jail for the rest of his life, and if there's any other victims out there, they need to come forward and keep this man in jail," Houston said.

Maday is accused of abusing 35 to 45 children.

The archdiocese says Cardinal George has not considered resigning over his handling of sexual abuse allegations involving priests.
