ISLAND COUNTY, Wash. — Bail was revoked for an Oak Harbor man charged with 30 counts of child sexual abuse after he contacted one of the minors involved in the case, said Colleen Kenimond, Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney.

In an emergency hearing Wednesday, a judge decided to hold Nathan Martinez, 21, without bail pending his trial.

The request came after Martinez called the home of one of the minors involved in the case from the Island County Jail, said Kenimond.

Martinez also wrote letters addressed to four of the children and their parents. The letters were mailed to Martinez's sister who then delivered the letters to at least two of the four families, Kenimond said.

Martinez violated his pretrial conditions not to have contact with anyone under the age of 18 and violated a protection order for his alleged victim, Kenimond said.

The judge also said that Martinez cannot make telephone calls from the jail except to the office of his attorney. He also can't contact the victims' parents, his sister, and the church pastors without the presence of his attorney.

Martinez appeared in court on Monday and entered a plea of not guilty to 30 counts of rape and child molestation.

Martinez met his alleged victims through his activities at the Living Faith Christian Center in Oak Harbor.

He baby-sat the 10 alleged victims, boys and girls, ranging in age from 3 to 13, until one of them complained about Martinez to a parent, Banks said.

Pastors at the church met with Martinez and said he confessed, admitting he could not control his behavior.
