Police say they have charged a fourth man over allegations of sexual abuse at two private schools at Bathurst in the central west of New South Wales.

They say a 65-year-old Armidale priest was charged with four offences this afternoon over claims he abused students at St Stanislaus College.

Abuse allegations: St Stanislaus College in Bathurst.

Overnight, police laid 60 fresh charges against Brian Spillane, who has already been charged with 33 offences over the abuse of students at St Stanislaus College in the 1970s.

Today, they announced they had made two further arrests - a 66 year old Catholic brother was charged with 28 offences over allegations of abuse at the same school, while a 63-year-old man was arrested in Queensland and charged with three counts of indecently assaulting a student at All Saints College in 1973.

But Superintendent Mick Goodwin says police are unsure if the cases are linked.

The only correlation at this time is that the two offences occurred during the same period, he said.

He says he cannot rule out further arrests.
