MARYVILLE — Preliminary hearings for a couple charged with sexual abuse of teenage girls at a Maryville church were reset this afternoon to Oct. 14 at 9 a.m.

General Sessions Judge William R. Brewer reduced bond for Laura Lee Click Salazar to $20,000, from $100,000, on condition that she have no contact with any victims or witnesses, directly or indirectly, and no contact with her husband, co-defendant Michael R. Salazar.

The Salazars are accused of sexual battery by an authority figure and statutory rape by an authority figure in connection with alleged incidents at the couple's Wrights Ferry Road home. Documents allege they had sexual relations with girls aged 15 at the time, between September 2007 and June of this year.

Michael Salazar faces a battery and a rape charge in connection with each of three girls and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond on each of the six charges. Laura Salazar faces one count of each charge.

Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp has said three other girls have come forward, alleging that they, too, were sexually abused by the Salazars. Charges have not been filed in those allegations.

Lamar Calley, a minister at the church, has said the church family was caught completely off guard by the charges.

He said of the 25 or so youth who had been in the church program, all the girls have been pulled out by their parents.

More details as they develop online and in Tuesday's News Sentinel.
