KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — A former student at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School has informed the school's principal about an alleged incident of sexual misconduct that took place at a teacher's home in 2001.

The teacher was confronted by the principal and denied the allegation. In accordance with the Diocese of Charlotte policy on sexual abuse, the teacher was suspended on Friday, Sept. 5.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte reported the incident to the Department of Social Services as required by state law. The diocese will comply and cooperate fully with any investigation by the authorities, while conducting its own investigation of the allegation.

According to a news release, the teacher was hired in 1991. A criminal background check, which is conducted on all diocesan employees, showed that the teacher had no prior criminal record of sexual misconduct. No other allegations regarding this teacher have been reported in the Diocese of Charlotte.
