A teenage boy who was sexually abused by disgraced Catholic priest Daniel McCormack on Thursday settled his lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Chicago for $2.5 million.

The unnamed 14-year-old was 12 when the abuse occurred at Our Lady of the Westside School in Chicago, where McCormack was a teacher and boys basketball coach.

The boy was one of the five victims McCormack admitted he molested when he pleaded guilty in July 2007 to five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Ken Cunniff, the teen's lawyer, said.

Some of the boys were molested while McCormack was parish priest at St. Agatha Catholic Church on the West Side.

"This is the largest settlement of an individual case against the archdiocese," Cunniff said.

Archdiocese spokeswoman Susan Burritt couldn't confirm that, but the archdiocese did confirm the agreement.

"It has long been the practice of the archdiocese to reach out to victims and attempt to resolve their claims without burdening them with the stresses of an extended legal process," a statement by the archdiocese said.

McCormack, 39, was sentenced to five years in prison last year and is imprisoned in downstate Jacksonville.
