  Former B-N Priest Posts Bond in Drug Case

A priest with ties to the Twin Cities is out of jail after being charged with selling cocaine on the University of Illinois campus. The Reverend Christopher Layden posted $5,000 bond for his release from the Champaign County Jail. Champaign County prosecutor Julia Rietz the 33-year-old Layden allegedly sold cocaine to an informant at the U of I's Catholic student center and in his office.

Layden pleaded not guilty to the felony drug charges yesterday. The school has suspended Layden. He has served previously at Central Catholic High School and Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal. says an informant tipped off police.

The Diocese of Peoria says -- prior to Layden's arrest, officials never had any suspicion of drug use by Layden.
