A federal judge again delayed the surrender date for a former priest convicted of stealing more than $1 million from his Darien church.

Michael Jude Fay, a former pastor of St. John Roman Catholic Church on the Post Road, last year pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of money obtained by fraud. He was to report to the Federal Medical Center in North Carolina to begin serving a three-year sentence today.

The surrender date was postponed to Oct. 21 so doctors can continue to discuss the medical treatment he will receive while incarcerated. Fay is being treated for prostate cancer at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
