PLAINFIELD, N.J. - A bishop taken into custody at his Plainfield church is facing child sex abuse charges.

Union County authorities said 46-year-old George Benbow was arrested Wednesday morning at the Christian Fellowship Gospel Church, where he serves as a pastor. He was being held on $150,000 bail.

Authorities say the alleged abuse occurred on church grounds between 2000 and 2008. The charges stem from an investigation that began in July after concerned residents contacted Plainfield police.

Benbow was charged with four counts of second-degree sexual assault on a child less than 13 years old and two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child under the age of 16.
