FOUKE — The investigation into rumors of child pornography continue after federal agents and state police conducted after a dramatic raid yesterday at the headquarters of Tony Alamo Ministries in Fouke. The organization is run by a convicted tax evader who has been in trouble with the law many times since moving to Arkansas in the mid 70's.

Tom Browne, who runs the FBI office in Little Rock, says there's been a two-year long investigation of Tony Alamo involving transportation of children across state lines for criminal activity. He says children at the compound in Southwest Arkansas may have been sexually and physically abused.

Critics call Alamo's group a cult. In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Alamo denied involvement in child pornography. He claims the government is harassing him.

The raid had been set for October but was moved up after an e-mail exchange between Justice Department employees about the investigation was inadvertently sent Friday night to Arkansas media. They were asked to hold their stories until after the raid began. The note said that officers expect charges to come from how young girls were treated at Alamo's compound.
