Federal agents arrested a Royce City church pastor Wednesday for sharing child porn pictures with other people online. 36-year-old Steve Richardson, leader of the First United Methodist Church of Royce City is charged with transporting child pornography after agents seized computers at home and at his church.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation that began in December 2007 by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE). While serving a warrant on another suspected child pornographer, they discovered pictures posted in a peer-to-peer service by someone named "cowboysspades."
Agents working undercover made contact with "cowboysspades" several times and linked more than 30 child porn pictures to that person, including pictures of infants engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
According to a press release, Richardson admitted under questioning he was "cowboysspades" and his home IP address matched one of nine used by cowboysspades. Richardson also admitted using his work computer to trade the photos.
The investigation was part of Project Safe Childhood, a national effort to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
