HARTFORD, Conn. - A Superior Court judge has ordered a former Connecticut priest to return from Virginia by Oct. 30 for a lawsuit on sexual abuse allegations or forfeit his right to defend himself.

Superior Court Judge Robert Shapiro says the Rev. Stephen Foley failed to appear for a video deposition in the civil case of a man who claims Foley abused him as a teenager.

Foley moved to Virginia after being accused of abusing boys he lured through his work as a Connecticut State Police chaplain.

Foley's attorneys have said he is fighting cancer and has been too sick to testify, but that he wants to comply with the court's orders.

The Archdiocese of Hartford has settled 12 sexual abuse cases against Foley, who is still a priest but has been ordered not to perform any church duties.
