DECATUR - Former English teacher and pastor Randy L. DeJaynes was sentenced Monday to two years probation on his guilty plea to one count of possession of child pornography.

Associate Judge James Coryell accepted a plea agreement worked out between Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Dobson and defense counsel Thomas Griffith. He said DeJaynes must undergo sex offender treatment and successful complete it, pay fines and restitution totaling $12,945 and a $200 DNA fee charged to first-time felons.

DeJaynes had to undergo a sex offender evaluation prior to the sentencing hearing, a provision mandated by state law.

During that evaluation, DeJaynes tried to distance himself from his offense, something that is not atypical for such defendants, Dobson said.

"I hope he realizes if he does not go through the counseling his probation can be revoked," she said.

Dobson said under the plea agreement, DeJaynes forfeited the computer seized by police from his Forsyth home and agreed to have no contact with the victim of his crime.

The Macon County grand jury indicted DeJaynes on four counts of child pornography in March 2007. The three remaining counts were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

DeJaynes faces three charges of aggravated battery and two charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Piatt County stemming from his alleged conduct with male students while a teacher at DeLand-Weldon High School.

Piatt County State's Attorney Leonard Rumery has indicated that based on the disposition in Macon County, those charges will be dismissed when DeJaynes appears in court there on Wednesday for a status hearing in his case.

DeJaynes is no longer a teacher, Griffith said.

Investigators found DeJaynes gave a teenage boy snacks during study periods in his classroom at DeLand-Weldon High School and also provided him with a digital camera with the understanding the boy was to take a picture of his genitals and e-mail it to DeJaynes, who is the former pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Decatur.

Police found one picture of the boy's genitals on DeJaynes' computer.
