JAJPUR, Oct. 12: With the controversy surrounding the rape of a nun in the strife torn Kandhamal district yet to die down, a similar incident involving a Mata (God woman) has come to the fore in Jajpur district.

The police took up investigations only after a month of the reported incident. A rape case was registered with Dharmasala police station following the direction of the court of Judicial Magistrate, first class, Chandikhole, after the complainant knocked its door.

The local police under the direct supervision of the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) would conduct the investigation, district police sources said.

According to the complaint, the 55-year-old Mata used to stay at Gokarneswar temple situated on the river bank of Brahmani near Jaraka under Dharmasala police station limits in the district. She was allegedly raped by the priest of the temple and subsequently by the trustee who happens to be a government servant.

The Mata, a devotee of Abhiram Paramhansa and has renounced the world for the past 15 years, alleged that she was thrown out of the temple with her belongings when the matter came to light.

"The SDPO is supervising the case. We will take steps after getting prima facie evidence against the accused," Jajpur superintendent of police Mr DS Kuttey said. The accused are absconding.
