NEOSHO, Mo. — A Neosho man who has been identified as a self-proclaimed pastor of a fringe church and who already was awaiting trial on a dozen felony counts was bound over Monday for trial on two more charges.

Randall "Danny" Russell, 49, pastor of the Acts II Church in rural Neosho, was charged in August with six counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. The charges stem from photographs investigators reportedly found on Russell's laptop computer, which Newton County authorities seized earlier this year while executing a search warrant at a compound that includes Russell's home and business.

Russell was bound over for trial on the two charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, both Class B felonies, after a preliminary hearing Monday, said Assistant Newton County Prosecutor Bill Dobbs.

Dobbs said the six child-pornography charges had to be dismissed at the preliminary hearing because a witness from the forensic laboratory that reportedly found the photos on Russell's computer was unavailable. Those six charges were refiled later Monday and again are pending.

Russell already faced one count of statutory rape in the second degree, two counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree, six counts of statutory sodomy in the second degree, one count of felony child abuse and two counts of child molestation in the first degree.

Russell has pleaded innocent to those 12 felony charges. Those cases are to be tried in McDonald County on a change of venue.
