EASTLAND, Texas (AP) — A Texas appeals court has thrown out the conviction of a former priest accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in the early 1990s.

The ruling last week says a trial judge erred by allowing an advocate for victims of priest abuse to testify as an expert in the trial of the Rev. Thomas Teczar (TEK'-zahr).

Teczar was convicted last year of sexual assault and indecency and ordered to serve 25 years in prison.

An Eastland County prosecutor says he plans to retry the 67-year-old former priest. He served in the Fort Worth Roman Catholic Diocese.

An attorney for Teczar says he plans to discuss options with his client.
