Adoption Row: 3-Member Council to Probe

Kochi, Friday, October 24, 2008: It has been decided that a three-member Bishops council, appointed by Verapoly Arch Bishop Daniel Acharuparambil, will probe the allegations against Bishop John Thattunkal in the adoption issue and submit its report to the Arch Bishop. Which would be later send to Pope.

The Bishop council consist Kottapuram Bishop Dr Francis Kallarackal, Vijayapuram Bishop Sebastian Thekethecherriland and Dr Vincent Samuel.

Meanwhile, the Pope has summoned Bishop John Thattunkal to Rome.

Thattunkal had two days ago called a special meeting of the priests under his dioceses and apologised for his action. The priests declined to accept his apology and demanded his resignation.

Thattunkal has mentioned that he was prepared to resign and nullify the adoption, if asked by Vatican.
