A 37-year-old man filed a lawsuit Thursday against the Diocese of Wilmington and St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Middletown alleging childhood sexual abuse by a now-deceased priest. According to a lawsuit field in New Castle County Superior Court, Robert J. Kohr was sexually harassed, molested and abused by Rev. Carmen D. Vignola while he was pastor of St. Joseph's from 1984 to 1987. According to the 22-page suit, the diocese and St. Joseph placed Kohr at risk because they were aware of Vignola's dangerous propensities and had a duty to disclose to Kohr and his parents. Vignola , who died in 1989, was on a list of 20 priests against whom there are substantiated allegations of sexual abuse against minors. The list was released in 2006 by former Diocese of Wilmington Bishop Michael A. Saltarelli.
