On Wednesday, the Diocese of Toledo announced new assignments or retirements for three priests and four deacons. The Rev. Frank Murd, former pastor of St. Mary Church in Tiffin, has been named chaplain to the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin.

He began his ministry here Nov. 13.

Sister Jackie Doepker, community leader for the Tiffin Franciscans, said Bishop Leonard Blair, head of the diocese, has cleared Murd to perform priestly duties on the Tiffin campus.

"He will have a daily Mass, and he will do anointing of the sick, and the sacrament of reconciliation, on request," Doepker said.

This past April, Murd resigned from his duties as pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Maumee after being accused of sexual imposition upon a 27-year old man. During a June bench trial in a Lucas County court, the priest was acquitted. The diocese sent Murd to an out-of-state facility to complete counseling and treatment.

"The people here have welcomed him back. We are very happy to have him. We feel like it's a mutual blessing to have him here as a part of our community," Doepker said.

Murd has moved into an apartment on the campus. He briefly spoke to The Advertiser-Tribune by phone.

"I'm thrilled to be back home in Tiffin, and I'm honored to minister to the sisters here," Murd said.
