VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A Vancouver-area former pastor who was spared prison time for child rape a decade ago has pleaded guilty to assaulting a teenager.

Under the plea entered Monday, 43-year-old Robert D. Bennefield could face up to 12 years behind bars.

In 1998, when Bennefield was a pastor at Lighthouse Christian Center in the Rosemere neighborhood, he pleaded guilty to first-degree child rape and attempted second-degree assault involving two brothers. He also admitted molesting nine other boys he met through the church.

Bennefield was granted an alternate sentence of six months of jail and therapy for sexual deviancy, a program he completed.

This year, working in hotel maintenance, Bennefield was caught by the father of a 15-year-old boy and on Monday he pleaded guilty to third-degree assault with sexual motivation.
