GREENACRES, FL -- A local youth minister is behind bars tonight facing disturbing charges.

Pastor Brent Edwards is accused of having sex several times a week, every week, for more than a year with a 16-year-old member of his congregation.

The 33-year-old ran "Extreme Revolution Youth Ministries" from the Community Life Center in Greenacres, and from his Suburban Lake Worth home.

It's a group his website explains was formed, in part to "provide proactive intervention in the lives of teens."

Detectives believe one of the teens he and his wife were counseling became Edwards' victim.

According to the arrest report, "Edwards provided her a ring and told her they were now like a married couple so they could have sexual relations," and the victim claims she consented.

Investigators say some of the sex acts happened in Edwards' car, but most, happened in his home - some while his wife was in the house.

Christy Edwards refused to speak to NewsChannel 5 about the accusations against her husband.

Investigators say she learned of the alleged relationship after the investigation began.

The teen confided in another minister, who told the teen's parents.

Detectives say she decided to come forward because, "she realized after a possible pregnancy scare that Edwards might have been taking advantage of her vulnerabilities."

Detectives claim, in a recorded conversation, Edwards "professed his love," admitted to having sex with the teen and referring to a bible verse the minister said, "he should have waited."

He's now being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on $100,000 bond for the two felonies he's charged with.
