V ictims abused by a former city church youth group volunteer dissolved into tears Friday as a judge jailed him for two years.

Kelly Malcolm Grant, who pleaded guilty in June to three counts of sexual touching of girls under 14 and two counts of sexual exploitation while in a position of trust, showed little emotion as Justice Bryan Mahoney read his decision.

The charges against Grant, 44, stem from his abuse of three girls, two of them sisters, at the Centre Street Church between 1994 and 2002.

Mahoney, who also placed Grant on two years probation following his sentence, called the offences "very serious," with devastating, long-term effects on his victims and their families.

As the judge read his decision, Grant's victims covered their faces with their hands and wept. Outside court, they hugged one another, relieved at the outcome.

"It's over. It's been four long years, we're glad it's finally over," said one of the women.

Evidence from the preliminary hearing cannot be published because of a court-ordered ban.

"We hope, if there is anyone else out there, that they do come forward," said another victim.

The mother of one victim wept and hugged her daughter, happy the ordeal had come to an end.

"We know him. He sat at our table," she said, shaking her head.

Grant is automatically registered on the national sex offender registry.
