Lawyers for four women who attended a Canberra primary school are trying to establish who was responsible for the former students, when they were sexually abused in the 1970s.

The cases relate to Father Patrick Cusack, who it is claimed had a connection with St Matthew's Primary School in Page.

In two of the cases, the priest took the girls from their classroom and sexually molested them.

Lawyers for the women have now issued writs on two former headmistresses to work out who should be pursued for compensation.

Father Cusack died in 1977.
