BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont judge is allowing the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington to introduce evidence at a priest sex abuse trial of steps the diocese took to try to guard against sexual abuse of minors by priests.

A lawyer for the church says the ruling by Chittenden Superior Court Judge Dennis Pearson marks a change in that the church is being allowed to show what steps it took to address the problem of sexual abuse by priests.

The ruling came in the trial of a lawsuit by a Maryland man who says that when he was an altar boy at Christ the King Church in Burlington, former priest Edward Paquette sexually abused him.

It's the third trial this year in which former altar boys have alleged abuse by Paquette.
